Accessibility statement for ableaisle.com
AbleAisle helps Shopify merchants find and fix accessibility issues, so we want our own website to be easy for everyone to use. This statement covers the public website at ableaisle.com: the home page, the free Quick check, the guides, the launch waitlist and our support and legal pages.
Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and to reach the higher AAA contrast level for body text.
What we've done
- The site is plain, server-rendered HTML that works without JavaScript (the Quick check uses a little script to show progress, with a fallback if scripts are off), with a "Skip to main content" link, visible keyboard focus and labelled form fields.
- Text and buttons are designed to meet the WCAG AA contrast ratios (body text is designed for the stricter AAA ratio of 7:1), links and controls have visible focus outlines, buttons, form fields and menu links are at least 44 by 44 pixels, and the layout works when zoomed to 200% and on narrow screens (down to 320 pixels wide). Pinch-zoom is never blocked.
- Form errors are shown in a message at the top of the form and next to the field they belong to, and fields are linked to their hints and errors.
- There are no carousels, animations or videos that play automatically, and nothing on the site refreshes itself on a timer.
- The site uses your device's own fonts, so there are no font downloads, and it sets no cookies.
- Before we publish changes, we run automated checks (axe-core, which covers WCAG 2.2 level AA rules) on every public page at phone and desktop widths, and we check them with a keyboard.
Known limitations
- While a Quick check is running, its status page moves you to the results automatically when they're ready.
- Automated checks find many issues, but not all. We haven't yet had the site tested by an independent accessibility specialist or with a panel of disabled users.
- The AbleAisle app itself runs inside the Shopify admin and uses Shopify's own interface components. This statement covers the public website, not the Shopify admin.
